MKM Building Supplies pledges local charity support at opening of its 124th branch in Boston

A LEADING UK independent builders’ merchant, MKM, has opened its 124th branch in Boston, Lincolnshire. Creating 18 local jobs and marking the company’s eighth MKM branch in the region.

Branch Directors Adam Keal and Mark Pellow were joined by MKM’s 6ft 5in mascot ‘Bricky’ as they welcomed local trade and retail customers into the new branch. Boston charity The Butterfly Hospice Trust were also in attendance and were presented with a cheque for £1,630 as MKM Boston’s chosen charity.

Commenting on the opening, Branch Director Adam Keal, whose 21+ years of industry experience has seen him working in businesses including Turnbull’s, Buildbase, and Travis Perkins, said: “It feels fantastic to finally be open. Having lived locally all my life, it’s a privilege to lead a business in my hometown. We had a great turnout on opening day and presenting the cheque to The Butterfly Hospice Trust was a special moment for Mark and me. It’s important to us that we do more than just supply great products, we’re determined that the branch will uphold MKM’s well-known values to provide support to local projects and charities. We’ve also just agreed to become a lead sponsor for Boston Utd and hope to be part of many more community projects going forward.

“The team at MKM Boston has combined experience of over 200 years, and we’re incredibly proud of the specialisms we’ll be providing to customers, notably in plumbing and heating — where our man Dan Holland has over 12 years’ experience — and in other areas like renewables and roofing.”

Julie Baker, Fundraising Champion of The Butterfly Hospice said: “We were delighted to accept the cheque and being present on the grand opening day. How wonderful for the town to be welcoming a new business.”

MKM Boston sits on a 15,000 sq ft plot and will supply tradespeople and the public with a diverse range of building materials and services including timber sheet & joinery, 3D bathroom and kitchen design, landscaping products, renewables, brick matching, flooring, plumbing and heating and roofing and civils. The team will also offer ‘drawing take off’ – which will enable customers to have the materials for their entire build project costed from architects’ plans. Among the standout brands stocked at the MKM Boston branch are Siniat, Kronospan, Unilin Insulation, Kingspan Insulation, Plasmor, IG Lintels, Global Stone, Ibstock, Worcester and Ideal Boilers and Polypipe.

Branch Director Mark Pellow, who has over 35 years of industry experience, added: “One of the great things about Boston is the close-knit nature of the community. The support and well wishes we’ve received so far have been overwhelming. We want to be known as the local merchants for local people; welcoming, knowledgeable, and always helpful.

“If you’re a builder, joiner, brick layer, tiler, plumber, plasterer, fitter, landscaper, home improver or weekend DIYer then our message is simply, ‘we’re the big yellow building down the road, come on in and give us a try.”

Tradespeople and the public are encouraged to drop in to the new MKM Boston branch based at Boston Industrial Centre, Norfolk Street, Boston, PE21 9HG. The branch offers free local delivery.
