CINDERELLA will go to the ball this summer — or at least eight carnivals across Essex — thanks to the support of a leading builders merchant.
Wickford Town Carnival Team has opted for a Cinderella carriage theme for its float this year and members are participating in a whistle-stop tour of Essex carnivals during the summer.
To help ensure the float is looking as impressive as possible, the Chelmsford branch of Selco Builders Warehouse has provided around £400 worth of building materials such as plywood, paint and sheet fixings.
Sean Ellis, chairman of the Wickford Town Carnival Team, said: “It’s always an extremely busy time of the year as we work to get the float ready for the summer season and then take it on the road.
“Selco have been fantastic in their support, having helped us last year when we created an Alice in Wonderland theme and then doing likewise this time around.
“Having them provide the materials takes a lot of pressure off and ensures we can focus on making the float is as interactive and engaging as possible as it goes in front of thousands of Essex residents.”
The Cinderella float made its first appearance at Braintree & Bocking Carnival in June, will appear at its ‘home’ Wickford Carnival on September 14 and also visited other local events including in Witham, Basildon and Clacton.
Lee Powling, manager of the Chelmsford branch of Selco Builders Warehouse which can also be found in West Thurrock and Basildon, said: “We are committed to supporting the communities in which we operate and to be able to provide the Wickford Carnival Team with the products and materials to make their float look as impressive as possible.
“Carnivals are a real focal point of communities during the summer and we are delighted to play a small part in helping Wickford entertain the crowds from across the whole of Essex.”
