WE ALL KNOW how lovely decking is when it’s new. It provides a great focal point in the garden, and can be the perfect space for entertaining.
So, when it comes to applying any kind of treatment to its surface, it’s important to feel very confident that what’s being used is completely reliable.
The use of two products, one after the other, from the woodcare expert, Liberon, is helping homeowners to transform the look of their decking and protect it too. Liberon Tough Deck Clean & Revive plus Liberon Superior Decking Oil are viewed by many as the ‘dynamic duo of decking care’. Liberon has been trusted by professionals for years to achieve beautiful results, which means homeowners can too.
Liberon Tough Deck Clean & Revive is specifically formulated so that wood can be revitalised without altering it. It effectively cleans and removes mould, mildew and black spotting, eliminating greying and restoring the natural beauty of the wood. Its concentrated formula provides high coverage that can easily tackle heavily soiled areas and even stubborn stains.
V33 Tough Deck Clean & Revive can be applied on either bare or oiled decking. Firstly, brush the wood to remove excess dirt. Dilute the cleaner in a proportion of one unit of cleaner to two units of warm water. This solution can then be applied in two ways. If using a pressure washer, spray the decking and then leave it for ten minutes before rinsing with clean water. If using a brush, the solution can be poured onto the surface using a watering can, left for ten minutes, rinsed, and then scrubbed using a hard-bristle or patio brush, followed by more rinsing. One litre of V33 Tough Deck Clean & Revive with two litres of water will tackle approximately 60 m2.
Next comes the application of Liberon Decking Oil, which is formulated to penetrate deep into the wood. It is highly water resistant with UV filters to prevent fading, and will help to restore colour and beauty to decking that’s already weathered.
Firstly, stir the oil well before use. Apply a generous coat with a paintbrush or roller. Allow the oil to penetrate for 15 to 30 minutes, then apply a second coat without waiting for the first to dry. Continue to apply more coats until the timber no longer absorbs the oil. Wipe any excess with a lint-free cotton cloth and allow to dry for 24 to 48 hours before using the decking. Liberon Decking Oil is available in a choice of Clear, Medium Oak and Teak finishes and comes in two tin sizes: 2.5 L or 5 L.
As oil brings out the natural colours of timber, it’s a good idea to try the decking oil on a separate piece of wood before beginning the job to see what the finished effect will look like. Another tip is to select one such as Liberon’s that can also be used on fences, garden sheds or gates to make money go further.
