LEEDS College of Building (LCB) is celebrating after taking home two awards at the ‘Building the Future’ Construction Awards in Birmingham.

The college won both the ‘Best Further Education Provider Supporting Careers in Construction’ award and the ‘Best Higher Education Provider Supporting Careers in Construction’ award.

Celebrated annually, the Building the Future Construction Awards recognise those who advance skills, leadership, innovation, and inclusivity within the built environment.

The awards were held at Edgbaston Stadium and were hosted by actor and presenter Colson Smith and CEO of the OM Group, Damini Sharma.

Commenting on the double win, LCB principal & CEO Nikki Davis said: “We are absolutely delighted to take home awards in both further and higher education. It is recognition of all the amazing work our staff do that contributes to student success.

“Over the last few years, our higher education provision has grown massively, so to be acknowledged by the Building the Future Construction Awards is fantastic.

“Across all levels of construction education, we offer fantastic progression routes into industry, and these awards are testament to that.”

LCB was described by the awards panel as an organisation that exemplifies how specialist institutions can transform construction education, stating: “Their combination of teaching excellence, diversity, sustainability, and digital innovation make it a powerhouse for construction training — and a vital bridge between education and industry.”

LCB assistant principals Chris Tunningley and Steve Connell, head of construction crafts Wayne Chappelow, and curriculum manager Sarah Sunderland attended the event where they heard from influential local voices, including West Midlands Metro Mayor Richard Parker.

Reflecting on the evening, Chris said: “It was a really great event and we’re so proud to have bagged two awards. It’s a fantastic recognition of everyone’s hard work and commitment.

“I just want to say a huge well done to everyone at LCB, as it really is a team effort and thank you to all the employers and stakeholders who choose to work with us and support us.”
